Seven Embu MCAs, including Ibrahim Swaleh, the Deputy Speaker, were rejected by the residents in the just concluded party nominations. Before he became an MCA, Swaleh was the councilor for Kirimari Ward. However, his rival, Morris Muchiri, trounced him in the Jubilee Party primaries. Nevertheless, Swaleh has decided to run for Kirimari MCA seat as an independent candidate. Geoffrey Ruku, a former member of the Water Trust Board, also lost in the senatorial nominations for the Jubilee Party. He has however decided to vie for an MP position as an independent candidate. Geoffrey Ruku, Mbeere North MP Aspirant Ruku lost to Njeru Ndwiga, a former Cooperative Development Minister. Ndwiga garnered 56,305 votes against Ruku who garnered 30,183 votes.
