Embu Leaders Dismiss Joe Nyagah’s Presidential Bid

A section of Embu leaders has dismissed presidential ambitions by the former Cooperative Development Minister, Joe Nyagah. The politician has declared his intention to vie for presidency in the next general elections as an independent candidate. However, his move has spurred mixed reactions among the electorates and the leaders in the Mount Kenya region.

  Jubilee's project

A section of ODM supporters argue that Nyagah is a Jubilee project that is aimed at taming the losers in the just concluded primaries and electorates that had decided to vote for NASA Presidential candidate, Raila Odinga in the August 8 general election.

Dividing Mount Kenya votes

There is also a section of the leadership that argues that Nyagah is an opposition plot to divide Mount Kenya votes since most residents are President Uhuru Kenyatta’s supporters. However, DP and PNU gubernatorial candidates, Njagi Kumantha and Kithinji Kiragu respectively have bashed Nyagah. They term his ambitions as a political joke and a mission in futility.

The leaders have noted that Nyagah garnered 2,000 votes only in his last attempt to become a Member of Parliament. Embu County Speaker, Justus Mate, noted that Nyagah will most likely get 1,000 votes in his presidential bid.

Muria Nyaki, the MCA for Mbeti South and a Maendeleo Chap Chap candidate, says that Nyagah is thankless to Uhuru for his decision to oppose him. That’s because he has decided to oppose the President even after he appointed him as his own advisor.

Nyagah resigned his position as President Uhuru’s adviser on May 5, 2017 to vie for presidency.
