President Kenyatta’s Visit Met with Displeasure from Embu County Residents

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Wednesday, 25 January 2017 tour Embu County. His visit marks the last leg of his whirlwind trip that saw him traverse different counties in the Mt. Kenya region.

The visit comes at a time when Embu County residents are expressing their displeasure with the president for neglecting a county that overwhelmingly voted for him in the last polls.

H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta
Last year, over 2,000 Embu, Mbeere and Kamba elders expressed their disappointment with the President for “snubbing” the county during his regional tours. The elders, hosted by Embu Senator, Lenny Kivuti in his Kanyuambora home, urged the president to visit the county-which he didn’t.

Since the announcement of his planned visit last week, residents of Embu County have taken to the social media to express their disappointments with the president and his planned visit.

Here are some of the Facebook posts and comments by Embu Residents:

Karani Gregory I can see from the info @denis itumbi that the president will come to Embu only for encouraging us to register as voters .....We know our Constitutional rights and how well to execute them
If Mr president you don't have substantial development quenching message to the people of Embu just know that we have had enough of it...... Period.....

Njeru Barnabas What's the benefits of his visits?

Peter Rutere Akae huko hatumtaki....Embu anakuja 2 coz ya kura n no development.....

Musah Njueh Mugoh Anajua waembu watamfuata tu. Kubebwa ujinga nayo!

Kelvin Nyaga where was the guy after all 5years. he was opening projects cjui coast, kisumu cjui ukambani. sasa the elections are here and he comes to launch mobile huduma. we are taken for a ride embu people its time to wake up

Kennedy N Munyi Its not about his money, he is infact a billionaire. Rather, its about what impact his leadership has on the millions of poor pple. Why support support someone who does not appreciate your support???

EMBU County Development FORUM
This is what i will call 'Being used' As Embu people we need to rethink our allegiace, its clear that Prsident Uhuru takes the people of Embu for granted. Any project that he has patroned during his time in the high office? any official tour of Embu county? Does it mean Embu people are blind, headless followers of the Kikuyus?Dennis Itumbi,Wahome Thuku,Waembu Online, Mbeere South union”

Clearly, majority of the residents in Embu County are unhappy with the president. Some leaders are even exploring other political moves including establishing and popularizing a new political party or venturing into new political alignments.

These sentiments indicate clearly that for the new Jubilee Party to retain Embu as its stronghold, it has to do something.
